What are Product Mindset Questions?

They are key questions we must ask ourselves to contextualize a problem and approach a solution while considering all the dimensions that may influence it.

These are standard questions that won’t apply to every single case, but they are meant to stimulate critical thinking. With practice, these and other questions will come naturally.

When can I use them?

Whenever we are going to design any product, product feature, product documentation, or design system.

How can I access them?

From this page, which will serve as living documentation, enriched progressively with reference readings and real-world examples.

The Questions

1. What problem are we trying to solve?

Focus on the problem, benefit, or objective behind solving it—not the solution itself. Not the design. In any product project, efforts should be 60% focused on understanding the problem, and 40% on solving it.

2. What is the objective or outcome we expect to achieve by tackling this problem?

What value do we want to obtain by solving this problem? The answer is usually the other side of the coin from the previous question.

3. Who are the users whose needs we are solving?

It could be a specific segment or a group sharing certain characteristics or behaviors. If you don’t have that information, ask for it.
